Next Meeting Tuesday, October 6th, 6 pm
Our next meeting is on Tuesday, October 6th, at 6 pm at the Center, 208 W. 13th Street in Manhattan. We will be continuing our discussion about the possibility of a transgender clinic at one of HHC's primary care facilities as well as strategizing around our work to educate people about GENDA's importance. Bring your ideas and energy! See you on the 6th!
HHC Update - Gouverneur
Over the last few months, Health Initiative members have made progress, and also hit some roadblocks, in our discussions with HHC about the possibility of creating a transgender clinic within the HHC system. Recently, we've begun working with HHC on a new LGBT Health Program at Gouverneur Healthcare Services. We plan to meet with Gouverneur representatives in October. Come hear an update and help form our next action steps to move this clinic forward.
Photovoice Project Seeking Participants
At our next meeting, we will be joined by a Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health student who is seeking 6 to 8 Health Initiative members to participate in a PhotoVoice Project. PhotoVoice is a research method that allows participants to express their views through photos and narratives about the photographs they take. Come find out more!
New Transgender Health Care Provider Directory
On July 21st, our partners at the Center's Gender Identity Project hosted the kick-off party for New York's first-ever Transgender Health Care Provider Directory created by partner organization NYAGRA. The directory lists health care and service providers in the NYC metropolitan area who are experienced in working with transgender and gender-variant patients and who are sensitive to their needs and concerns. They include hospitals and clinics, physicians, surgeons, endocrinologists, electrologists, chiropractors, and acupuncturists, as well as mental health professionals such as psychologists, psychotherapists, psychiatrists, and clinical social workers.
