Transgender Rights Group to Honor Gov. David A. Paterson
Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund to Honor Paterson at Sixth Anniversary Benefit
WHAT: The Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund (TLDEF) will hold its sixth anniversary benefit.
WHEN: Monday, May 23, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm; awards at 7:30 sharp.
WHERE: Chelsea Art Museum, 556 West 22nd Street, New York, New York
WHO: Gov. David A. Paterson, TLDEF Executive Director Michael D. Silverman, film director Kimberly Reed, Dr. Christine McGinn, NCAA Division I basketball player Kye Allums, writer, producer and actress Laverne Cox.
WHY: "I am extremely appreciative of this tremendous honor," said Gov. Paterson. "During my time in the governor’s office, I used every tool at my disposal in the fight against discrimination. Now, as a private citizen, my resolve to see all discrimination ended is as strong as ever and my hope is to finally see long overdue marriage equality legislation pass."
"We are thrilled to honor Governor Paterson," said TLDEF executive director Michael Silverman. "He has been a tremendous supporter of transgender rights. When the Gender Expression Non Discrimination Act was pending, he supported it wholeheartedly. And when that bill failed to pass the New York Senate, he took action, issuing an executive order barring discrimination against transgender employees by New York State. He is an inspiration and he honors us by attending the benefit."
