We Will Be Free! Make a Difference in the Fight for Equal Rights this Holiday Season
Every day, people around the country contact us seeking assistance and support to overcome discrimination and obstacles in their lives. Their experiences are harrowing ones. At times, the struggle for our freedom can seem more than difficult - it can be dispiriting. But at this time of the year, with the holidays upon us, it is more important than ever to remember that as long we work together for justice and equality, we will be free.
As TLDEF has thrived as an organization, the number of community members seeking help from us has grown exponentially. In New York City alone, hundreds of community members seek vital services through the Name Change Project each year. Our cases now stretch from New York City to Florida, out to Kansas and beyond. With your help, we fight discrimination wherever it arises. And during this holiday season, we need your support.
We have a special way for you to give this year. In the spirit of the holidays, and in response to the many recent tragic reports of bullying and violence directed towards transgender and gay youth and adults, the internationally-known artist Sica has created a series of monotypes for TLDEF, all titled "We Will Be Free." Each is an original work of art, signed by the artist. She has generously donated the works, and all proceeds from sales support TLDEF's vital work. Purchasing one or more of these works of art is a great way to turn holiday gift-giving into charitable support for TLDEF. You can read more about Sica and the artwork she has created on TLDEF's behalf - and make a purchase - here.
Whether you choose to purchase one of the limited number of works available, or choose simply to make a donation to support our work, you will be ensuring that we will, indeed, one day be free.
We are grateful for your support and wish you the very best during this holiday season.
